How to Make puppy chow in a giant Ziploc bag

Mar 7, 2010 10:15 PM
Packaged Nestlé chocolate bars in a room setting.

Puppy chow is not for your puppies! It is a sweet, chocolate and crunchy treat made from Chexmix coated in a mixture of peanut butter, chocolate chips and butter. This is a very decadent treat that can be stored in a plastic bag.

Step 1: In a medium sized microwaveable bowl, arrange ingredients side by side as follows: 1/2 c. peanut butter, 1 stick butter/margarine, 1 12 oz. bag chocolate chips. Step 2: Apply cover over bowl and place in microwave on HIGH for approximately 1 min. 45 sec. Chocolate chips will not look melted, so do not overcook. Step 3: When time has elapsed, remove bowl from microwave and stir ingredients together until fully combined. Step 4: Put box of Crispix or Rice Chex cereal in very large bowl. Pour wet peanut butter/chocolate chip/butter mixture over dry cereal until covered. Mix together with large spoons (or your hands!) until cereal is fully covered. Step 5: Pour 1/4 c. of powdered sugar into bottom of the 2 large brown paper grocery bags. Place bags in one part of the kitchen sink to avoid spills. Pour entire cereal mixture into the brown paper bags. Step 6: Pour remainder of powdered sugar box/bag over the cereal mixture in the brown paper grocery bags. Standing over sink, close the paper bags tightly at the top so no air can escape, and SHAKE, SHAKE, SHAKE! You are shaking the bags to allow the powdered sugar to fully coat the cereal mixture inside. Step 7: Once you have shaken the bags several times, slowly open the bags over the sink. If the cereal mixture appears thoroughly coated by the powdered sugar to your liking, you're just about done.... Using a large spoon and a 1 gallon sized Ziploc bag, carefully transfer the "Puppy Chow" you just created into the Ziploc bag. Step 8: Keep cold until serving. Yields: Approximately 1 gallon bag serving if you follow these measurements. Very easy to increase yield.
