How To: Make Your Homemade Chocolates Kick with Pop Rocks Candy Filling

Make Your Homemade Chocolates Kick with Pop Rocks Candy Filling

If there's anything I've ascertained from all my candy-eating, it's that Pop Rocks are singularly the most awesome candy ever. The carbon dioxide gas that's mixed with the hard sugar forms a load of tiny, 600-psi bubbles, which vigorously release when they melt in your mouth.

I remember the first time having my share of Pop Rocks and it's something pretty magical when you're that young... or even that old.

While the crackling pops may just be an unnecessary (yet awesome) attraction, the candy itself is actually very tasty (the watermelon one was always my favorite). All in all, the candy is just great in every aspect, resulting in over 40 years of popularity.

How could it possibly get any better?

While the whole recipe is actually quite easy, it's the decision to combine those two things that makes this project really great. To begin, you'll need:

  • Chocolate chips
  • Pop Rocks
  • Candy molds
  • Food-grade brush or small spoon
  • Microwave safe bowl
  • Butter knife

To make the Pop Rocks chocolates, you'll need to melt the chocolate chips into a batter of chocolate. Once it's melted, you'll want to pour a small amount into the candy molds, followed by Pop Rocks, followed by more chocolate.

Finish the snack by placing them in the freezer until they harden. Serve and watch as your friends and family become little kids again.

Note: If you want, don't tell anyone that the chocolates have pop rocks inside and just wait wait until their reaction.

If you're too lazy to make your own, you could also just get some of these...
